Lofoten is the best place I’ve ever visited so far. And I’d like to believe that my stay in Svinøya Rorbuer made it even more memorable.
Svinøya Rorbuer is comprised of several cabins that used to be fishermen’s shacks way back. It used to be a fishing village and you can still see the fish drying racks in the middle of each group of cabins. The cabins are beautifully set in the middle of the beautiful ocean and the snow-capped mountains. It seriously looks like a setting of a dream! It was so beautiful! Just imagine seeing the sunrise from the mountain tops and the sunset by the sea. I’ve added some photos from our cabin window. 🙂

The hotel was probably 10-15 minutes from the airport. We’d need to walk to the actual cabin after checking in to the hotel through their restaurant, Borsen Spiseri. It’s really easy to go to. In the airport you can call for a taxi or use Uber, no problem.
The cabin had everything we needed. We had a full kitchen, tv and heaters. We took the 2 bedroom cabin. The rooms were very comfortable. They provide comforters and there’s a heater in each room so you won’t freeze, no worries. Dining out in Norway was generally expensive so don’t expect that Lofoten will be different because it’s the same or even more expensive to be honest. So good thing we had a kitchen because we cooked most of our meals there. We only dined outside probably 3 times because we hoarded some groceries from the nearest grocery. Being in the cabin the whole night can make one almost always hungry plus it’s good to eat during cold winter nights. 🙂
Our stay here was amazing. I know I’ve been saying this a lot in this post but it really was magical. The best thing about this accomodation was to step out of the cabin at night and see the northern lights right outside the cabin! How amazing is that!?!?! People go to Iceland and Finland to chase the northern lights, you’re lucky if you see it but some are unlucky not to. But here, all you have to do is step out of the cabin and it’s right there every single day we were there! We’re partly lucky coz we’ve seen the northern lights every day during our stay, we also chased it to see it more vividly. But the northern lights chase is expensive so we went only once (which was magical btw), so seeing the northern lights from our cabin was truly a gift. 🙂 It really made our trip super memorable. Here’s the video from my iphone!!! Yup that’s how vivid it was, even a normal iphone photo without any apps can capture the lights!!!
So yeah, if you want to see the northern lights for sure, go to Lofoten Islands. And try out this accomodation. It’s worth every dollar. 🙂 Oh and even if it was windy, my drone braved through it and I was able to capture this photo. This is where our cabin was. 🙂
